Mushrooms!

photo: Wylie Mycologicals I don”t even know how to begin this post. It”s a strange one for sure. I came across this web site last spring and I thought.. well, I”ll just file that one away for the dead of winter when my local food blog entries may be sparse and few and far in-between. Well! Its not the dead of winter yet, but with snow-opolis looming overnight in the region, and the snow piling on…I thought I”d bring this idea out of the vault and share it with you, because some things locavores just need to know.. ha – or at least I think you need to know. Yup folks.. what you see in that photo above is a home grown mushroom – it does not get more local than that, now does it? The one in the picture above is actually a PINK mushroom (pink pleurotus), pretty isnt it? I don”t know what you think of the idea, but I think this sounds so super cool. I have not ordered any yet…the only reason being is that I am afraid of what they will look like when they arrive! And then, what will I do with all those ”shrooms?! I mean, I”d have to get a vegetarian cookbook or something, lol. Apparently you can get special organic kits, regular kits, indoor kits, and even outdoor kits (think giant outdoor puffball mushroom!). What do you think? I think it could be the next big craze! Look at this bunch… neato! photo: Wylie Mycologicals Wylie Mycologicals is located just North of Owen Sound, on the scenic Bruce Peninsula.
